For Carpe Momentum, the continuous and reliable provision of ice on-board is essential for bringing 500 pounds of fish back to the dock in pristine condition. Built for tournament fishing in 2005, the highly customized Donzi 58 ft. Express Sport Fish yacht provides the perfect mix of luxury and fishing excellence, featuring the latest technology and a stunning interior. So when it comes to putting the catch on ice, Captain Glenn Morgan did not want to cut corners – he needed the right ice maker for his boat.
The Problem
“Being a commercial fisherman and boat captain, you are only as good as the quality of your fish when you get back to the dock, so having a system that delivers the right amount of ice while also fitting comfortably on-board is extremely important,” comments Morgan. “Having previously owned an Eskimo Ice 600D, I was pleased with the efficiency of the system and its ice supply, but its size meant we had to modify the unit and the boat in order to install it.”

The Solution
Producing up to 540 lbs. (245 kg) of freshwater flaked-ice per day, the cube-shaped Eskimo Ice EI540D measures just 16 x16 x16 in. (413 x 413 x 413 mm). Boasting a compact design that is about 30% smaller than the 600D model but offering the same performance and provision of ice, the EI540D also compacts the ice into cylindrical pellets, allowing it to travel twice as far and with less melting from the unit to the fish box, offering greater location flexibility on-board.
Morgan added: “We’ve had the EI540D installed for over a month now and it works phenomenally. Not only does it produce the same amount of ice as the previous model, but the new and improved model is much smaller, removing the need for us to take it apart for installation. It now also features an exterior casing to protect it from the weather and moisture and keeps the fish box full with ice all of the time. To be able to sell fish that are ‘sushi-grade’ quality, with all of their colour like you just caught them out of the ocean, brings top dollar or best quality for eating.”
