Fishing boat owners keen to preserve their catch in tip-top condition have been choosing Dometic Marine’s range of Eskimo Ice Crushed-Ice systems for over 25 years. The Eskimo Ice systems can deliver freshwater flaked-ice up to 35 feet from their engine room position to convenient deck locations such as a fish box or a cooler.
Smart digital monitors mounted remotely at helm positions on the bridge or cabins are conveniently located for ease of operation. They report the system’s operational status and alarms to skipper and crew at all times. If there are any problems they can be resolved as soon as possible to preserve the ongoing production and supply of ice.
As long-time fishing enthusiast Capt. Ronnie Fields says, “Catching the fish is one thing, keeping it in prime condition until you return to the dock is of equal importance. It’s vital to chill the catch as soon as it’s caught and the flake ice that my Eskimo produces makes good contact with the fish to chill it quickly. There aren’t any sharp edges on the ice to damage the skin of the fish. On a good day my guests and I can catch a lot of fish so we need a lot of ice.”
Technical Data
Each system features Dometic’s ‘Smart Logic’ Digital Display, which monitors status and automatically resets functions if problems with pressure, water and ice levels or blockages are detected. Mounted remotely, the digital display allows users to control the system from the deck, eliminating the requirement to go to the engine room.
“The biggest problems associated with tournament fishing ice machines include temporary failures in ice production and the inability to easily monitor the system. If ice production stops, users are typically required to mechanically reset the machine via its control pad in the engine room which can be impractical and inconvenient. Dometic’s Eskimo Ice eliminates these problems by incorporating automatic reset capability and enabling users to monitor and control system status remotely,” comments Bill Liptak, Product Engineer, Dometic Marine.
