World-leading supplier of marine air conditioning, Dometic Marine has recently received a U.S. patent for its award-winning Turbo air conditioning system. Winner of an industry renowned IBEX Innovation Award in 2007, the Turbo has revolutionized self-contained cooling and heating, offering an extensive range of benefits including improved performance, reduced noise and vibration, as well as increased durability.
“We are delighted to have received a U.S. patent for our Turbo self-contained air conditioning system, which is testament to our position as a supplier of innovative and class-leading systems and solutions. Congratulations to the engineering team behind the design and development of the Turbo, who have succeeded in creating yet another unique system that continues to answer the needs of the market,” comments Frank Marciano, President, Dometic Marine.
Ideally suited to boats up to 60ft, the Turbo provides a powerful, compact and quiet self-contained air conditioning system. It's unique ‘marine-optimized design’ features a rust-free molded composite drain pan and has three drains for the rapid removal of condensate water. The Turbo’s advanced cushioning system results in quieter, virtually vibration-free operation, while its enclosed blower motor eliminates overhang to provide easier installation.

NOTES FOR EDITORS
TECHNICAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE TURBO
The Turbo product was redesigned from the inside out with multiple patent innovations, including the first high-tech composite rust-free condensate drain pan that provides positive flow to the drains, even when the boat rolls and heels. The unit’s high-velocity blower rotates through 270 degrees with a single adjustment screw. The unique blower ring design is such that the overall height of the unit is not increased when the blower is rotated. The one screw replaces four self-tapping screws found on other air conditioning units, reducing installation time and allowing the blower to rotate faster. A holistic approach to vibration and noise reduction includes multiple levels of isolation to minimize vibration to the deck. Overall BTU capacity is higher, and power consumption is lower than other comparable units on the market.
Key design features include:
- Reduced unit height by up to 17% and reduced width by eliminating blower motor overhang
- Increased capacity by up to 21%
- Reduced amperage draw by up to 27%
- Reduced standing water in the condensate drain pan by up to 85%
- Noise and vibration minimized by innovative isolation system
