What types of coolers are there?

Coolers have come a long way, and fall into two basic categories: powered coolers, like thermoelectric and compressor coolers, which offer the advantage of never needing ice to keep your food and drink chilled. They are a great option if the outdoors is your go-to, if you tend to take longer camping trips, or enjoy living off-grid or where ice may be difficult to get.

Non Powered coolers come in several varieties, including disposable ones and those built for extended adventures. A basic cooler, or camper ice box, is the least expensive and designed for casual use — like taking along cold food for an impromptu picnic. Sometimes called an ice chest, ice cooler, or insulated cool box, it doesn’t have a lot of insulation, but will work if you’re only going to be out for a few hours.

Soft-side coolers give you cooling with less weight, and they can be stored in a smaller space when not in use. They make it easy to bring food you need to keep cold along, whether you’re taking a long hike away from the campsite or simply want to have a chilled snack on hand.

But if you’re serious about getting out there, and staying out there longer, you’re more likely to opt for a hard-sided, “heavy-duty” cooler. Whether you call it a passive cooler, a portable cooler, or a portable ice chest, a heavy-duty cooler like Dometic’s Cool-Ice and Patrol series sets you apart from the more casual adventurers. Our coolers are designed for the demands of outdoor use, whether you’re heading out for a weekend, a week, or even longer!

Which cooler is right for you?

To choose the right camp cooler, consider how often you expect to use it. If you’re more of a day-tripper and only outside for a few hours at a time, a basic cooler or soft-sided cooler may be sufficient. If you take more overnight trips or want to be sure that your ice lasts as long as possible, and that your cold food stays cold, you may want the option of a heavy-duty cooler like the Cool-Ice or Patrol.

Portable cooler for boating, fishing, and hunting

We know that having a passion for boating, fishing,  and hunting and spending time in the outdoors is often connected to spending quality time with your family and friends. Our almost indestructible outdoor coolers are built to withstand the most extreme environments, and if you will be away for long periods of time, then the best ice chest is a rotomolded cooler. With specially designed modular accessories, rotomolded coolers can make your adventure easier and let you focus on catching the biggest fish rather than worrying about keeping your ice frozen. These high-end ice chests are innovated to make your fishing and hunting trip easier, with outdoor cooler accessories including a seat cushion, as well as accessories to hold your fishing rod or drink. Stay focused while we keep your ice frozen.

    The ultimate outdoor coolers

Experiencing high outside temperatures, uneven terrain, dust and mud? Our insulated outdoor coolers take tough conditions in their stride. The ice boxes are equipped with extremely effective heavy-duty insulation, and once the cool packs or ice cubes have been placed inside, they will keep groceries, fish, bait and wild game fresh. Depending on use and weather conditions, ice will last for several days at a time. Every single detail of our ice boxes is designed to perform reliably in the toughest conditions.

What is the difference between an icebox and a rotomolded cooler?

A rotomolded cooler is a recognized manufacturing process that produces premium and high-end insulated portable coolers. While a simpler ice chest can keep ice for a couple of hours, the rotomolded coolers can keep ice frozen for days! The rotomolded coolers are the perfect portable coolers for those who want the best of the best, you will have the coolest drinks on your off-grid camping trip and what’s more? You will have a premium ice chest that will accompany you for years thanks to its premium, first-class quality.

    Best-rated coolers – read this

As you may have noticed, we think the “best coolers” are rotationally molded coolers. This is because of the superior insulation the rotomolding technology provides. The portable refrigerators come in various sizes and will provide you with days of frozen ice. An insulation box minimizes the amount of air going in the cooler, allowing this sort of portable cooler to stay cold for a long time. The hard cool boxes are equipped with extremely effective insulation, and once the cool packs or ice cubes have been placed inside, they will keep groceries, fish, bait and wild game fresh.

What passive coolers does Dometic produce?

While there are a variety of ice boxes on the market, you want to choose the one that will make your ice last as long as possible. The Dometic Cool-Ice is constructed of thick, refrigeration-grade foam insulation and a design that helps keep cold air in and warm air out. Cool-Ice ice chests are durable, strong, and easy to clean, and can be used for watertight dry storage as well as an ice chest. A carry strap makes it easy to carry and transport from your car to the campsite.

For ice that lasts even longer, choose a Dometic Patrol. Each Patrol cooler is constructed from a single piece of rotomolded polyethylene and has thicker walls than the Cool-Ice, which means that it keeps ice even longer than the Cool-Ice. It can also double as dry storage as well, and includes features like a deep-freeze lid seal, a leak proof drain, and a rubber latch opening that can be opened with one hand.

    Why choose a heavy-duty cooler?

A heavy-duty portable ice cooler like the Cool-Ice or Patrol isn’t for everyone. But if the outdoors is your go-to when you have free time, it’s an investment in your adventures. Dometic’s coolers are built to withstand the demands of years of outdoor use, while giving you the security of knowing your ice, and everything you’re storing in your cooler, will stay cold for days. And ice that lasts sets the stage for longer adventures, no matter where you roam.
