PROBLEM: The carbon canister is hot.
This is okay. When fuel vapor goes through the canister, the physical action of the carbon plucking the hydrocarbons from the vapor causes an exothermic reaction and gives off heat causing the canister to heat up. This is normal and will happen as long as the canister is working properly. The most noticeable time for this is during fueling when much more vapor is escaping through the canister.
