Kitale Wilson's Inspirational Journey
Telling Mother Nature's Story
Kitale Wilson: Visionary filmmaker and passionate storyteller.
Kitale's journey is deeply personal and inspirational. Growing up with a father who is a renowned polar explorer, Kitale was introduced to the wonders and challenges of the natural world from a young age. This early exposure fostered a fascination with analogue photography, which evolved into a profound passion for filmmaking. This medium allowed him to blend his love for nature with his exceptional storytelling skills.
Exploration is at the core of much of Kitale’s work, leading him to direct projects in the far corners of the world. His work spans extended documentary and narrative projects, and he enjoys collaborating with brands and individuals to refine their creative visions and produce captivating commercial content centered on storytelling.
Kitale's work is characterized by a profound connection to the environment and a relentless desire to highlight the pressing issues of climate change through compelling visual narratives. "It really is a balancing act. You can’t explore a new way of doing things and adventuring in a modern era without considering the impact on these environments. This requires bringing that consideration into your preparation phase and looking into a new way of preparing," says Kitale. His approach to filmmaking is firmly rooted in the belief that adventure and sustainability can coexist harmoniously.
His projects have been featured in prominent outlets such as Australian Geographic, ABC News, and The Project, and have been showcased in various international film festivals. Kitale's films not only captivate audiences with their stunning visuals but also inspire a deep appreciation for the natural world and a recognition of the critical need to preserve it. Through his unique perspective and unwavering dedication, Kitale Wilson stands as a leading voice in the movement for environmental conservation, demonstrating that impactful storytelling can drive meaningful change.
What does the "feeling of being on the water" feel like to you?
“For me, being on the water feels like an endless horizon. The space and freedom to explore. Growing up on the coast so much of my earliest memories are intertwined with rolling swells and glistening spray. Even when I've been at sea for weeks and weeks I still find myself inspired by the beauty of this environment - ever changing and wild. There is a sense of belonging in the ocean that calls me back every time.”
